Baseplates for Building Blocks: Which Size Fits?

The size of a baseplate is indicated in studs. For a small scene, 16x16 studs are sufficient, while for a whole city district, the 50x50 or 48x64 sizes are worthwhile. Our standard-sized Wange plates are available in these dimensions:

Studs Item Surface Area Price Good for
16x16 8802 approx. 12.8 x 12.8 cm 0.99 Euro Small scenes, bases for figures
16x32 8805 approx. 12.8 x 25.6 cm 1.95 Euro Narrow shelves, platforms, gardens
24x36 8809 approx. 19.2 x 28.8 cm 2.49 Euro Individual houses and display cases
24x48 8803 approx. 19.2 x 38.4 cm 2.95 Euro Elongated buildings, vehicle displays
32x32 8806 approx. 25.6 x 25.6 cm 2.95 Euro The standard size, matches road plates
28x56 8804 approx. 22.4 x 44.8 cm 5.95 Euro Street blocks and harbor edges
50x50 8808 40 x 40 cm 6.95 Euro Large dioramas, castles, city districts
48x64 8807 approx. 38.4 x 51.2 cm 9.95 Euro The largest single-piece surface area

Our best-selling plate is the 8808 with 50x50 studs. It is available in light green, green, white, blue, light gray, dark gray, black, and sand.

Baseplates in many colors

The color of the baseplate determines the background of your scene. Green and light green represent meadows and parks, sand for beach and desert, blue for water and harbors. Dark gray and light gray match streets, squares, and industrial sites, while black is for space models and exhibitions. White is suitable for winter landscapes and as a neutral background for photos.

Road and river plates for your city

With the Wange road plates, you can lay out a road network in a 32x32 stud grid. All parts fit together seamlessly:

For landscapes with water, Lonestar Bricks offers the River Curve Baseplate.

Mini, Big, and stackable: Baseplates for other brick sizes

Besides the standard size, we carry plates for other brick formats. The LOZ mini baseplates with 32x32 studs, for example in red or dark blue, are made for mini blocks. They do not fit standard blocks, but models built on them are particularly fine and compact. For large bricks in the Big format, we have the Big Baseplate in blue.

If you want to stack levels or place plates onto bricks, take a look at our stackable baseplates, with 20x20 and 32x32 studs, also available in transparent and metallic.

Frequently asked questions about baseplates

Do the baseplates fit on bricks from the market leader?

Yes. All standard-sized baseplates, for example the Wange plates 8802 to 8813, fit on the market leader's bricks as well as Mould King, Cobi, Reobrix, and other brands with standard studs. The LOZ mini baseplates are not compatible, as they are made for smaller mini blocks.

Is a baseplate the same as a Grundplatte?

Yes. Baseplate is the English term for the flat foundation plate you build your models on. In our shop, you will find both names used, but they refer to the same product.

How large is a baseplate with 50x50 studs?

The Wange 8808 with 50x50 studs measures 40 x 40 cm. With standard blocks, one stud is approximately 8 mm away from the next, so you can roughly convert any plate size into centimeters.

Which baseplate do I need for a city with streets?

For streets, use the Wange road plates with 32x32 studs: straight, curve, intersection, and T-junction. For houses and gardens next to them, the monochrome 8806 baseplate in the same size fits well.

How do I connect multiple baseplates to each other?

Place the plates side-by-side and build over the seam with flat plates. This holds the baseplates together and keeps the surface level. For exhibitions, you can additionally place the plates on a solid surface.

What does stackable mean for baseplates?

Stackable baseplates have connectors on the underside. This means you can attach them to other bricks like a plate, for example for elevated levels. Classic, thin baseplates are smooth on the bottom and are always placed at the very bottom.

How quickly will I receive my baseplates?

We ship from our warehouse in Berlin on the next business day, and DHL usually takes 1 to 3 business days after that. Shipping is free for orders over 50 euros, even for the large 48x64 stud plates.
